Exterior hood
The cover on the outside wall or roof. Its flap should open when the dryer runs and close by itself when it stops.
Duct run
The rigid pipe that carries the hot, damp air through the wall, ceiling or attic to the outside.
Transition hose
The short connector behind the dryer. Foil and plastic hoses crush easily and trap lint.
Elbows and rises
Every bend and climb in the run. Lint settles there first, and each turn counts against the length limit.
